ผมอ่านหนังสือพิมพ์ bangkok post เมื่อวาน คุณ DON นักข่าวที่เขียนอยู่ใน Section Database ได้สัมภาษณ์ Jimmy Wales ในงาน ICT Forums ผมอ่านคร่าวๆ วันนี้ Blognone ได้สรุปข่าวไว้ดังนี้

งาน​ Thailand ICT Expo ​ที่ผ่านมาคงทำ​ให้​ผู้​ใหญ่​หลายๆ​ ​คน​ใน​บ้านเราสะดุ้ง​กัน​เล็กๆ​ ​เมื่อ​ Jimmy Wales ​ผู้​ก่อตั้งสารานุกรมออนไลน์อันดับหนึ่งอย่าง​ Wikipedia ​และ​ประธานบริษัท​ Wikia ​ได้​มาร่วมบรรยาย​ใน​งานพร้อม​กับ​การชี้ชัดว่าปัญหาสำ​คัญอย่างหนึ่งของไทยคือการเซ็นเซอร์ข้อมูล​ใน​อินเทอร์​เน็ต​ ​และ​ปัญหานี้ควร​ได้​รับการแก้​ไขอย่างจริงจัง

ทาง​ Bangkok Post ​ได้​เข้า​ไปถาม​ Jimmy Wales ​ว่าตระหนัก​หรือ​ไม่​ว่า​ผู้​จัดงานดังกล่าวคือกระทรวงไอซีที​ซึ่ง​รับผิดชอบต่อการเซ็นเซอร์อินเทอร์​เน็ตจำ​นวนมาก​ใน​ประ​เทศไทย​ Wales ​ได้​ให้​คำ​ตอบว่า​เขา​ดี​ใจที่​ได้​พูด​กับ​คนที่รับผิดชอบเช่นนี้

ผมไล่หาเอกสารงาน ICT Forum ไม่ได้สักอันแต่ีถามตอบสั้นๆ จาก Wired Blog Network เกี่ยวกับโครงการ search engine ที่ ทีมงาน wikipedia จะจัดทำขึ้น คาดว่าคงได้ใช้กับประมาณเดือนหน้า หรือต้นปี Jimmy Wales ตอบคำถาม ผู้สัมภาษณ์ขณะที่อยู่ที่ประเทศไทย เมื่อวันที่ 16 พฤศจิกายน 2550 มีดังนี้

EPICENTER: So, what's with the Facebookish layout?
Jimmy Wales: Well, you know, it's just a familiar format for anyone that's doing social stuff. That will probably change before launch. 

E: Is this really supposed to be a Facebook/Google-killer?
JW: I have no idea, honestly. We're just having fun right now. The main thing is we're looking to see if we can create free open software that allows people to do better quality searches.

E: What would you say is the difference between Google's penchant towards secrecy and your project?
JW: The basic concept is this: In the same way [Wikipedia] has an open public process for editorial control, we want to bring that same philosophy to the editorial process behind search.

E: Open platforms seem to be a trend as of late, what's your take as you go into this?
JW: I think the real question is whether open is a buzzword, or is it really about free licensing. Is it open in terms of having that free license and giving people access, or is it more a question of, you know, "we'll just show [users] the API."

E: Any thoughts on other human-based search sites, like Mahalo?
JW: For me it's all about open source software. If it's not licensed then it's basically a web-based directory. We're using a broad public-based movement for this project, and that really calls for free licensing.

E: What's the ballpark for your release date?
JW: We're still thinking late December, but it's software. You know how that goes.
